From a real life angle

13th February, 2017. "The sun scorched so much and I was dehydrating exponentially. The entropy in my body aggrandized and there was an urgent need to restore orderliness. My movements were flabby towards the nearby shop, sought for shade and awaited a hawker of "pure water" for revival. Then fortunately, he walked past me, a human hawking "pure water" and I beckoned to him with the last joule of energy in me. He scurried towards me and asked, 'how many?' I replied gesticulating with my fingers. Without further ado, he handed over to me two sachet of water and allowed me to gulp it down my throat before requesting for his money.  'owo mi nko? (where is my money?)' he asked after I regained my composure. Then, momenentarily, my photoreceptors set to work and my brain processed the impulse. I now recognised who stood before me, it was a boy (name withheld), probably of age range 9 - 11.  'owo mi nko?' he asked further and consequentl...

A PEN REVOLUTION

Image
Whenever people say cliches like "if you want to change the world, change it with your hands" do they mean that if I desire a changed world, I should sheath my sword and spill  blood? Or perhaps they mean I should instil a change putting pen to paper? The world has been thrown into turmoil that arises from this cliche, people misunderstand it, and twist the meaning to suit their courses. Are they worthy of blame? No they are only wallowed in lust of their so called revolution. Even that they sheath their swords, spill their bloods, leave their bodies turn carcasses to be feed on by scavengers, the public still reckon with them as altruist for they think their rights are fought for. But I call them egoist who have been devoured by the luxury of their revolution. Violence, so the saying goes, begets Violence. You can have a change with a sword but it will only last momentarily, why? You achieve the change but you've left a scar which is deeper than your countless imagina...

The beginning of 2016, I set my goals but unfortunately I didn't fulfill all, 'will I not fulfill my goals?' I asked myself on 31st December. Then I got depressed, my mind incarcerated, my actions palpably becoming obnoxious, my thoughts became incessant and my brain perturbed. Then my sturdy intellect became worried and scrambled through itself, beseeching for the incarcerated mind a way out. Then it found one, it was far more than an answer, it blew my mind with euphoria, complimented my countenance with exuberance, my sense of realization awakened, my smile suppressed my despondency and my distraught, mitigated. Then I came to realize "that every year ends, even 2017 will, but 31st December is just a day that will dawn and dusk and 1st January is the day that follows. That these days are just normal counting days which will last until reckoning begins. That 31st December will not always cart away my unfulfilled goals but rather 1st January gives a chance for rene...

BLACK: A COLOUR OR AN IDENTITY?

I wonder why many Africans living in diaspora feel abashed when labelled as blacks, so, I asked myself, are they not proud they are Africans? Don't they give respect to their etymology? I couldn't find any sufficient and appropriate answer not until I realised I've been misusing the two phrases "being African" and "being Black". An eccentric person might not make a sense out of this, why? Because he thinks he's black and not African. Have you ever wondered the kind of infuriating responses you'll get when you ask a non-African who an African is? One of such provocative answers is "being black". Therefore, is it not just to jump to an extrapolation that black is a term use often in socially based systems of racial discriminating or of ethnicity, to describe persons who are perceived to be dark-skinned compared to other given populations? As "Blackness" also is a term imposed at the moment of conquest by apex oppressors, as a ...

TECHNOLOGY : the cause and solution to TERRORISM

Over the years, technology has rendered to  human, one of the greatest supports of living  one could ever imagine, it made life easier and  worthy of living, it solved the problems we  never thought we had in ways we don't  understand and none whatsoever of the things  we enjoy now would not have existed without  technology. Not only do we enjoy every benefit  that technology has brought us, but we exploit it  also. Consequently, the exploitation of  technology led to what we can refer to in  today's language as TERRORISM; which has  posed and will continue to pose great threats to  the security of the world if treated with an indifferent attitude. We might not accede to this, but our entire way  of life depends on electricity. So what would  happen if it just stopped working? Well, like a  switch turned off, the world will suddenly thrust  back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the  sky, h...
